Bethany Vivo
Movement Specialist
Body Detective & Decoder
For more than 20 years, I've built my work around one obsession: finding out why pain keeps coming back.
Not chasing the symptom. Not chasing the sore spot. The root.
My approach is full-body, integrative, movement-based, and breath-based—because the body doesn't work in isolated parts, and neither do I. Pain isn't always the problem itself. Sometimes it's a signal that something else in the system isn't working the way it should.
So I look at the bigger picture: how you move, breathe, stand, walk, exercise, compensate, and respond to the demands of everyday life. I combine detailed movement assessment, hands-on manual therapy, and individualized corrective exercise to figure out what's actually driving the problem—not simply where you're feeling it.
From New York City to a Practice of My Own
My career didn't start with a five-year plan. It started with a layoff.
I trained at the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences in New York City and spent most of my career working alongside other providers, continually refining my approach to pain, movement, stability, breathing, and the way all of these systems interact.
One of the most influential chapters of my career was at a clinic in NYC where multiple disciplines worked together around the same patient. It was truly integrated care—and it shaped the way I believe healthcare should work.
Then the pandemic hit.
The clinic closed, and the job I loved disappeared overnight.
I didn't have a backup plan. I had more than 20 years of experience, a stubborn curiosity about why people hurt, and no choice but to bet on myself.
So I did.
Going from being part of a team to running an entirely solo practice wasn't easy. But it turned out to be one of the most rewarding transitions of my career.
Today, when you work with me, you get all of me—my full attention, my experience, my curiosity, and my commitment to figuring out what your body actually needs. No hand-offs. No rotating providers. Just one person who gets to know your body and stays invested in your progress.
And honestly? I wish I'd had someone like me earlier in my own journey.
I Don't Quit on You…or the Problem.
I don't believe in one-and-done fixes.
If something isn't working, we look at it differently. If I don't have the answer, I don't guess—and I don't simply send you on your way. I research. I ask questions. I collaborate with other professionals I trust. And I keep looking.
Because sometimes getting better takes a village.
When appropriate, I work alongside acupuncturists, trainers, physicians, and other healthcare and wellness professionals to build the right team around you. My goal isn't to keep you dependent on treatment. It's to help you understand your body, develop better movement strategies, and have the tools to keep making progress outside of our sessions.
More Than 20 Years of Learning
I've never believed that becoming a therapist means you're finished learning.
I'm licensed in North Carolina, New York, South Carolina, and New Jersey, and I've continued my education throughout my career in orthopedic manual therapy, pain, movement assessment, breathing mechanics, motor control, gait, and corrective movement.
My training includes:
Active Release Techniques®
NeuroKinetic Therapy®
Selective Functional Movement Assessment
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization
Anatomy in Motion
Postural Restoration concepts
Immaculate Dissection concepts
TMJ-integrated work
Craniosacral therapy
Cupping therapy
Kinesiology taping
LMT License NC # 20637
I didn't collect these techniques to fill a wall. I learned them because each one gave me another way to understand the human body—and another way to help someone who hasn't found the answer yet.
And I'm still learning.
I'M A BIT OF A BODY DETECTIVE.
My job isn't to simply find the sore spot and work on it.
I'm looking for the missing link.
Through individualized assessment, manual therapy, movement work, breathing strategies, and education, I look at how your body is actually functioning, not just where it hurts.
Depending on what you need, we may explore:
Posture & Movement
How you stand, walk, stabilize, rotate, and load your body.
Breathing & Stability
How your breathing patterns influence movement and your ability to create stability.
Manual Therapy / Massage Therapy
Hands-on techniques selected specifically for your body and your goals.
Old Injuries & Compensations
The ways your body may have adapted over time.
Nervous System & Stress
How your nervous system may influence tension, movement, and your experience of pain.
Body Awareness
Learning to recognize what your body is doing—not simply where it hurts.
There isn't a predetermined recipe for healing. Every body is different. Every session is different. With me you’ll receive individualized care.
A Few personal Things About Me
Bronx-born, NYC-raised. I've traded the city for Charlotte, North Carolina— but I'm still very much a city girl at heart.
Give me a kettlebell, a bike, or a beach and I'm happy. Bonus points if all three happen in the same week.
I'm an animal person. And if you ask me about my cat, be prepared to hear all her.
I'm actually a homebody. My idea of a wild Friday night might involve cleaning and a Costco run.
I'm still chasing chin-ups. I still lift heavy, keep moving, and believe strength is one of the best forms of self-care.
